What is the SQL Database?

If you use DotNetNuke, the customizable Content Management System that Clarity recommends, then you’ll work heavily with the DNN SQL database application. The DNN SQL database application is the main mechanism of storage for all of your website’s information. When a user makes changes to the SQL database, the corresponding elements of the website are automatically updated. This streamlines the web management process and prevents you from having to make manual changes to individual web pages. Safe, controlled access makes security less of an issue. Using the DNN SQL system, a user can even create multiple sites with ease.

Configuring Your DNN SQL Database Application

Just like the rest of the DNN SQL server, security settings are entirely customizable. The most common scenarios are database owner-only access, and database owner plus non-owner access.

Configuring the DNN SQL database on your computer begins with installing DNN and then creating an empty database on your computer to host your website. Make sure the database is installed on the root of your server; otherwise, you may not have proper administrative control. As an administrator, you’ll be able to determine who else has control over the SQL server, and in which capacity. You’ll also be able to control each module and component of your website with ease.

Security Settings for Your SQL Database Application

Just like the rest of the DNN SQL server, security settings are entirely customizable. The most common scenarios are database owner-only access, and database owner plus non-owner access. With database owner-only access, you’ll configure the server so that it’s set to database owner-only permissions. With any other security setting, you’ll first establish database owner permissions, and then allow case-by-base access to other portions of the server customizable permissions. This allows individual personnel access to the information they need, without providing them access to the entire database.

Ask Clarity about how we can help you customize your DNN SQL database settings and assign security roles to the correct personnel.
