It’s also a destination for hospitals and medical care facilities to purchase general medical supplies, including PPE.” Some supplies are very specialized and require specific paperwork that involves both a doctor’s approval and insurance approval. Workflow was a key aspect of this website in order to ensure customers could only buy items for which they had permission. HIPAA-covered data was also commonly exchanged, both for insurance but also for any information that could reveal a customer’s ailment. This comes in addition to the security already required to protect patient payment data. “From day one, the Handi Medical website has been a HIPAA compliant website, with the site operating on our proprietary eCommerce framework called CEF,” said Clarity’s CEO and President Chris Reddick. “This enables advanced versions of search functions such as autocomplete, fuzzy logic, category filtering, product filtering, suggested alternative products, and more. It also came with a fully customizable user dashboard for carts, wish lists, save for later, payment information, insurance, and much more.” The site has the ability to safely keep customer information on file via tokenization, which is integrated into the Handi EMR system. In this particular case, the Clarity team set up a multilayer secure push into an EMR/EHR system that receives data from CEF via an intermediary layer.
