Creating Categories and Attributes in Clarity eCommerce

Attributes, Categories, and Clarity ecommerce

Defining categories and attributes in ecommerce and easily creating them in Clarity ecommerce

Drop Down Menu for Categories and AttributesJust like a brick and mortar store, an ecommerce store needs organization. In a normal brick and mortar store, products are physically separated into different aisles and sections; clothing in one area, toys in another, and food in another. Also, if an item is available in different sizes or colors, all of the same sizes are grouped next to one another. ecommerce stores are modeled after those ideas too, just not in a physical way per say. Instead, ecommerce businesses use categories, subcategories and attributes to digitally organize their product selections to make it easy for their customers to find just what they are looking for.

Attributes

Attributes are factors used to define and describe products. Then are usually listed and can be chosen from on a product’s page. Some examples of attributes would be color, size, material, and width. Attributes allow your customers to customize the product that they are buying to their liking. For example, if a customer is buying a shirt online, the attributes that are listed on the page are probably color and size. The customer can then select their size and color preference, which customizes the shirt to their specifications.

Categories

Categories and subcategories are used to organize and group products based on characteristics that they have in common. They help businesses manage their products and help customers quickly search for and find want they are looking for. Categories are a great way to help customers get to the products that want to see and narrow down their selections. Sticking with the clothing example from before, an online clothing store could have men, women, and children’s categories. Then each of those could have subcategories that include tops, bottoms, swimwear and shoes. Or the children’s subcategories could be boys, girls, and infants. Categories can help customers that have a general idea of what they want to buy but don’t have a specific item in mind and would still like to browse.

Creating Categories in Clarity ecommerce

Just like with attributes, Clarity ecommerce makes it simple for businesses to create categories for their products and site. Using the platform, users can create and add as many categories and subcategories as they want. Under the Categories tab, you can add new categories, edit and describe current categories, and delete old ones. To add a product into a category, you go to the product’s page and under the categories tab, select one or as many categories as you want from the drop down menu.
