What is Order Management in Clarity eCommerce?
Order Management in the Clarity eCommerce Framework is the combination of three working parts: the
customer-facing Orders Tab
in the User Dashboard, the
Admin Orders module
in the back office, and the
Sales-Group
that threads quotes, orders, sub-orders, and invoices into one traceable transaction. Per the platform, the Orders Tab of the User Dashboard is used by Customers to view all purchases that have been made through the eCommerce Platform, with a detail view that shows line items, billing / shipping information, status, totals, and a UI to re-order any or all items from an order from any past order, invoice, quote or return.
On the Merchant side, administrators use the Sales Orders module to view and manage every order placed by customers during Checkout. Orders can be marked as confirmed, tagged for payment capture, voided, given notes, tagged with tracking status, and marked as shipped. Staff can attach supporting documents (BOL, BOM, certificates, tax forms) and route orders through the warehouse and AR workflows you already run. Because Sales Groups thread the originating quote, the order, and any sub-orders that split off the downstream invoices into one chain, a buyer, an approver, a CFO, and an AR clerk all see the same lifecycle from whichever entry point they happen to land on.
So, how is Order Management implemented into the Clarity platform? Order Management is a core component of the Clarity eCommerce Framework's B2B layer, working alongside
Account Hierarchy
(so every authorized User on the Account sees the same orders),
Quoting & RFQ
(the upstream origin of many B2B orders),
Invoice Payments
(the downstream financial settlement), and
Shipping & Fulfillment
(the warehouse, carrier, and tracking layer that drives sub-order status updates).
A consumer order has one shopper, one card, one shipment, one tracking number. A B2B order has a buyer who shops, a manager who approves, a finance lead who reconciles, a CFO who reports, multiple Ship-Tos, potentially multiple suppliers, and a fulfillment path that may split across warehouses. When the storefront pretends those differences don't exist, your AR team spends the rest of the week patching the gap.
“What's the status of my order?” goes to the phone
If the storefront doesn't expose real-time order, sub-order, and shipment status to every authorized User on the Account, your customers default to calling. Multiply by 1,300 B2B accounts and you have a full-time job answering status calls that the system should answer itself.
Quote, order, and invoice live in separate worlds
The buyer requests a quote. Procurement converts it to an order. The warehouse splits it into shipments. AR sends an invoice. Without a Sales-Group spine, those four artifacts have no common ID, and reconciling them is forensic spreadsheet work.
Multi-supplier marketplaces fall apart at fulfillment
If you run a marketplace where one cart contains items from multiple suppliers, the order needs to split into per-supplier sub-orders so each supplier fulfills, ships, and (often) invoices their own portion. The customer still sees one parent order.
Split shipping and multi-warehouse logic is non-trivial
One order shipping from three warehouses to two Ship-Tos is the rule, not the exception, in B2B. When the storefront can't handle that splitting cleanly (sub-order tracking, separate carriers, rolled-up status), the warehouse improvises and the customer is confused.
Re-ordering is friction-heavy
B2B buyers re-order constantly: the same parts list every month, the same office supplies every quarter. If “re-order this” isn't one click from a past order, you lose conversion to whichever competitor made it easier.
ERP and storefront drift apart over time
If orders flow into the ERP but status, tracking, and fulfillment updates don't flow back to the storefront, the customer-facing experience goes stale within hours. You need bi-directional sync, not just a one-way feed.
The cost of inaction is real. CSR teams at B2B distributors and manufacturers routinely report that 30–50% of inbound call volume is order-status, tracking, and “where's my shipment” questions. These calls exist only because the customer can't self-serve the answer. Order Management with Sales-Group visibility and real-time ERP sync deflects most of them back to the Dashboard, where the customer can answer their own question in five seconds.
How Clarity Integrated eCommerce solves it.
Six platform capabilities that turn a flat list of orders into a complete B2B order-management experience: lifecycle traceability, sub-order splits, multi-warehouse allocation, and the Admin tools your staff actually need.
Customer Orders Tab (User Dashboard)
List view of every order placed through the storefront. Detail view shows line items, billing and shipping addresses, current status, totals, sub-order shipments, tracking, and the re-order UI. Visible to every authorized User on the Account.
Sales-Group lifecycle spine
Sales Groups thread quote → order → sub-orders → invoice. Customers and admins can enter at any of those points and see the whole chain. Particularly valuable for CFOs who arrive at an invoice and need the full provenance.
Sub-orders: supplier & shipment splits
Multi-supplier marketplace orders auto-split into one sub-order per supplier. Split-shipping orders split per shipment / per Ship-To / per warehouse. Each sub-order tracks status, carrier, and tracking number independently while rolling up to the parent.
Admin Orders module
Staff use the Sales Orders module to confirm orders, tag for payment capture, void, add notes, attach tracking, attach supporting files, and mark shipped. Every change is logged against the order and surfaces in the customer-facing detail view.
Multi-warehouse allocation
Allocation logic chooses which facility ships each line based on inventory, ship-to proximity, carrier compatibility, and the rules you configure. When a single order draws from multiple warehouses, it splits into sub-orders along facility lines.
One-click re-order (8 OOTB paths)
Re-order any or all items from a past order in one click. Past-order re-order is one of the eight out-of-the-box reorder paths in CEF, alongside Wish Lists, Favorites, Shopping Lists, Subscriptions, Quick Add, bulk CSV upload, and invoice re-order.
One source of truth across storefront and ERP. Order Management is the most reconciliation-heavy module in any B2B platform, and getting bi-directional ERP sync right is what separates a working installation from a daily fire drill. Clarity Connect syncs orders, sub-orders, line items, status changes, tracking, fulfillment events, and Sales-Group lifecycle data both ways in real time across thousands of API endpoints and 25+ ERPs. Supported platforms include SAP S/4HANA / ECC, Oracle NetSuite / EBS / JDE, Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Business Central, F&O), Sage Intacct / X3 / 100, Acumatica, Epicor Kinetic, Infor CloudSuite / M3 / SyteLine, SYSPRO, and many more.

Step-by-step walkthrough
Order Lifecycle
A B2B order from cart to fulfillment to re-order
Seven steps that show the full Sales-Group lifecycle: what the buyer sees, what staff do, and what the CFO can self-serve.
1
Customer places the order from cart or quote
A buyer User on the Account checks out from the cart, or accepts a quote that converts to an order. The order is created under the Account and immediately appears in the Orders Tab of every authorized User's Dashboard.
2
System creates the Sales Group
Clarity creates (or attaches to) the Sales Group that threads the originating quote, the new order, any sub-orders that result from splits, and downstream invoices into one chain with one ID and one audit trail across the entire transaction.
3
Admin reviews and confirms the order
In the Admin Orders module, staff mark the order confirmed, tag for payment capture, add internal notes, and attach any required documents (POs, BOLs, tax forms) before fulfillment kicks off.
4
Order splits into sub-orders if needed
Multi-supplier marketplace orders auto-split into one sub-order per supplier. Split-shipping orders split into one sub-order per shipment. Each sub-order tracks its own status, tracking, and fulfillment while rolling up to the parent.
5
Warehouse allocation decides where each line ships
Multi-warehouse allocation logic chooses the right facility for each line based on inventory, ship-to proximity, and rules you configure. The result is visible to the customer in the Order Details view, so the field office knows exactly which warehouse their shipment is coming from.
6
Admin marks shipped and adds tracking
As each sub-order ships, staff attach tracking numbers and mark shipped in the Admin Orders module. Status and tracking flow into the customer-facing Order Detail view in real time, and into the ERP through Clarity Connect for AR and inventory.
7
Customer re-orders any or all items
From the Orders Tab in their Dashboard, the customer can re-order any single line item or every item from a past order in one click. Past-order re-order is one of the eight out-of-the-box reorder paths in CEF, alongside Wish Lists, Favorites, Shopping Lists, Subscriptions, Quick Add, bulk CSV upload, and invoice re-order.
Benefits & business impact: what real order management delivers.
Order Management done right doesn't just modernize your storefront. It deflects support calls, accelerates AR, shortens reorder cycles, and gives your CFO-level customers the visibility that earns long-term contracts.
CSR call deflection
“Where's my order” calls drop sharply when buyers, approvers, and finance leads can self-serve real-time status, sub-order tracking, and shipping detail from their Dashboard. No need to dial in and ask.
CFO & controller visibility
A CFO who receives an invoice can see what was bought, where it shipped, which buyer placed the order, and the current status of every line. The Sales Group surfaces all of that without a single phone call.
Faster repeat-order cycles
One-click re-order from a past order collapses the “same parts list, same Ship-To, same approved card” flow from minutes to seconds. B2B revenue is repeat business. This is where it accelerates.
Marketplace and multi-supplier scalability
Sub-orders per supplier let you scale your marketplace without hand-coordinating fulfillment. Each supplier sees only their lines, fulfills independently, and gets paid through their own settlement. The buyer sees one parent order throughout.
Warehouse efficiency through smart allocation
Multi-warehouse allocation reduces split-shipment costs, prefers the closest facility with inventory, and lets you tune routing rules as your distribution footprint grows. No one has to hand-route line items.
Audit-ready transaction history
Sales Groups give every order a complete chain of custody from quote to invoice. Compliance and finance audits get clean answers without forensic spreadsheet work. The data is already linked, attributed, and timestamped.
The people who benefit span every B2B persona on both sides of the relationship: buyers get faster re-order cycles and real-time status, managers get visibility into what their team is buying without having to copy them on every email, finance teams get audit-ready order-to-invoice chains, CFOs get panoramic order visibility through Sales Groups without doing any buying themselves, your warehouse and fulfillment staff work cleaner sub-order queues with the right allocation logic, and your CSR and AR teams stop answering “where's my order” calls and start working actual exceptions. Clarity Ventures customers ranging from Disney and Merck to San Diego Airport and Fujitsu run this exact pattern at enterprise scale through CEF and Clarity Connect.
Frequently asked questions
What is Order Management in Clarity eCommerce?
Order Management in the Clarity eCommerce Framework is the combination of three pieces working together: the customer-facing Orders Tab in the User Dashboard, the Admin Orders module that staff use to confirm, fulfill, and ship orders, and the Sales-Group spine that threads quotes, orders, sub-orders, and invoices into one traceable transaction. Per the platform, the Orders Tab of the User Dashboard is used by Customers to view all purchases that have been made through the eCommerce Platform, with a detail view that surfaces Line Items, Billing/Shipping Information, Status, Totals, and a UI to re-order any or all items from an order.
What are Sales Groups and why do B2B customers care?
Sales Groups maintain a Sales Order relationship throughout the entire transaction. A quote request becomes an order, which can split into multiple sub-orders, which generate invoices, all threaded into one Sales Group. The Sales Group lets your customers enter at any of those points and see any stage of the entire transaction. This matters in B2B because when a CFO gets an invoice and wants to know what is being paid for, where it was shipped, and what the status is, they can see the whole chain without making a single phone call. A companion video (B9 #44, UA5L2F9SNao) walks through Sales Groups in the Customer Dashboard.
How do sub-orders work?
An order can split into multiple sub-orders for two main reasons. First, in a multi-supplier marketplace, each supplier's portion of the cart becomes its own sub-order so each supplier can independently fulfill, ship, and invoice their lines. Second, when split shipping is enabled, line items going to different Ship-To addresses (or shipping from different warehouses) become their own sub-orders with their own tracking. The parent order rolls up the status of every sub-order. The customer sees both the full picture and the per-shipment detail. The companion Order Details / Status walkthrough (B8 #38, 86aPGcPmI4I) shows the detail view in action.
Can customers re-order from a past order?
Yes. The Order Detail view provides a UI to re-order any or all the items from an order. The customer can re-order every line in one click, or pick specific items and quantities to drop back into the cart. Past-order re-ordering is one of the eight out-of-the-box reorder paths in CEF, alongside Wish Lists, Favorites, Shopping Lists, Subscriptions, Quick Add, bulk CSV upload, and re-ordering from an invoice. The dedicated Re-ordering Options walkthrough (B8 #39, OFFVxhlcer0) covers the flow end-to-end.
What can administrators do in the Admin Orders module?
Administrators can use the Sales Orders Module to view and manage all Orders placed by customers during Checkout. Orders can be marked as confirmed, tagged for payment capture, voided, notes added, tracking status added, and tagged as shipped. Staff can also attach files (POs, BOLs, tax forms, certificates), modify billing or shipping details, and route orders through your fulfillment workflow. Every change is logged against the order and surfaces in the customer-facing Order Detail view so buyers see the latest status without calling.
How does multi-warehouse allocation work?
Multi-warehouse allocation logic chooses which facility ships each line based on inventory levels, ship-to proximity, and the routing rules you configure (preferred facility, zone, carrier compatibility, capacity, and more). When a single order draws from multiple warehouses, the order splits into sub-orders along facility lines so each warehouse fulfills, packs, and ships independently. The parent order rolls up status for the customer. Allocation rules can be tuned in the Admin Portal or driven by your ERP's warehouse-management module through Clarity Connect.
How does Order Management sync with my ERP?
Clarity Connect syncs orders, sub-orders, line items, status changes, tracking, and Sales-Group lifecycle data bi-directionally with your ERP. Orders flow from CEF into your ERP for fulfillment, AR, and inventory updates. Status, shipping, and tracking flow back to CEF so customers see the latest state in their Dashboard. Supported ERPs include SAP S/4HANA / ECC, Oracle NetSuite / EBS / JDE, Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Business Central, F&O), Sage Intacct / X3 / 100, Acumatica, Epicor Kinetic, Infor CloudSuite / M3 / SyteLine, SYSPRO, and 17+ more, across thousands of API endpoints in total.
