Clarity Ventures Adds Multicurrency Options For eCommerce

Out-of-the-Box Multicurrency Capabilities

Austin, TX — May 23, 2017 — Clarity Ventures announced today the addition of multicurrency as a vital feature to its eCommerce platform.

Clarity’s proprietary eCommerce framework (CEF) has been available for a number of years and continues to add new features. Multilingual has been a core eCommerce feature for over a year, where once it had to be added as a custom feature. With multilingual becoming standard, many of our clients now want the ability to take multiple forms of currency at checkout. The most common has been Canadian dollars, but one recent Clarity project deployed to 77 countries in more than 200 languages and currencies. This highly customized project was fundamental to us capturing and repurposing that code into our core multicurrency capability.

"What was once difficult has now been made easy," said Ron Halversen, VP Sales and Marketing at Clarity. "For years, every multicurrency project we built had a significant amount of custom development, which in turn made the project cost more. It's not that it's terribly difficult, it just required time and money to add to a project. Now it's an out-of-the-box feature that is available as an add-on module, which a client can add any time that they expand into international markets." Multicurrency’s primary task is translating one currency to another for products and services, but it’s also vital in calculating taxes and shipping based on the buyer’s location.

“It’s important to guide expectation management and communication with the potential customer when they're going through the checkout process,” says Chris Reddick, President and CEO. “This is especially important regarding what the fees will be and what the foreign exchange price is while they’re shopping. To aid in this, Clarity offers different levels of caching. For things like bulk searching and filtering, the client might choose to show currency data from a 15-minute cache in order to speed up response times on the site. This can change at checkout to provide real-time data and present the customer with down-to-the-second exchange rates. These are very important and non-trivial factors, especially with large orders.”

When it comes to multicurrency eCommerce, Clarity works with more than 100 different payment gateways that are necessary when businesses are dealing with multiple currencies, so having these capabilities for exchange rates is absolutely critical.
