Oracle NetSuite Database Tables Archetypes

In NetSuite, table metadata is extractable during the run time and is based on different predefined schemas from NetSuite and your account information. Through NetSuite data extraction, custom fields and tables can be listed and available like any other table. There are different types of tables that have unique features. Examples of table database archetypes are outlined below:

Entity Tables

In NetSuite database tables, entity tables represent entities. These are items on standard lists and these can show up in any child list or be reference via internal_ID. Entity tables typically contain aggregate columns. For example, an Account table has a SubsidiaryListAggregate column, and this will include the XML format list of all subsidiaries linked with the account. If you modify the XML list, you can update the aggregate.

A few examples of this table are:

Account NetSuite Table Account
Customer NetSuite Table Customer
Department NetSuite Table Department
Employee NetSuite Table Employee

Transaction Tables

In NetSuite, transaction tables represent the transactions. The transaction works operationally the same as entities, but there is a requirement of specifying line items for inserting to work for some transactions. These can be made specific through the ItemListAggregate field. For example, the subsequent query inserts a CashRefund record.

A few examples of this table are:

Estimate NetSuite Table Estimate
Invoice NetSuite Table Invoice
SalesOrder NetSuite Table SalesOrder
WorkOrder NetSuite Table WorkOrder

Child List Tables

There are many tables for which there can be lists existing as a part of any given entry. That is represented as an XML aggregate column on the table directly. These child lists are accessible as their tables, with every row representing only one entry. For enabling, set the IncludeChildTables property to the actual status.

While inserting a child table, many items can be specified by affixing a #number to the column before executing the SQL statement.

Simple Tables

Many tables are used with a WHERE clause when the data is exported. There is a limitation that some tables don't have this ability in NetSuite Database tables. These are simple tables that do not return much data.

Custom Tables

Custom tables are specified for custom entities created in NetSuite. These work just as entity and transaction tables, but they do not have aggregate columns.
