Fortis, a gateway, Payment Hub makes it a payment platform

Fortis is an excellent embedded-payments gateway: global card acceptance, ACH, tokenization, 3DS2, vault, commercial-card enhanced-data support, a clean OAS-based API. What it is not is an industry-aware payment platform. A nonprofit does not run payments the way a distributor does. A hospital does not run payments the way a university does. A subscription SaaS does not run payments the way a county treasurer does. None of that industry behavior lives inside any gateway, Fortis included. Payment Hub is the layer that takes Fortis's acquiring capacity and turns it into the payment experience each vertical actually needs.

Headquartered in Plano, Texas and founded in 2009, Fortis processes billions of dollars annually and has public backing from Audax Private Equity and Lovell Minnick Partners (joint recapitalization, March 2025). It's a stable, well-capitalized gateway choice, which makes it a good foundation to build an industry-specific payment stack on top of. Payment methods are complete (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, JCB, UnionPay, ACH), tokenization and 3DS2 are native, and Fortis is publicly CEDP-ready on Visa's Commercial Enhanced Data Program.

Payment Hub consumes the Fortis gateway through the Fortis Platform API and builds on top: a branded self-service customer portal, 25+ ERP connectors, CEDP-ready Level 3 auto-enrichment from ERP line items, Pay-on-Account, tokenized ACH and card wallets, real-time cash application back to the ERP, and industry-specific workflows tuned to how each of eight verticals actually gets paid. Same Fortis MID. Same settlement. Same statement. One negotiated rate structure.

The division of labor: Fortis provides the acquiring capacity, the card-network connection, the vault, and the gateway API. Payment Hub provides the industry-specific payment flow, the customer-facing experience, the ERP integration, and the AR automation. Neither product replaces the other, and Payment Hub makes Fortis the right choice for eight industries it wouldn't otherwise serve out-of-the-box.

Industries Clarity Payment Hub unlocks on Fortis

Fortis alone is a gateway, excellent at what that means. What it is not is an industry-specific payment platform. A nonprofit, a distributor, a hospital, a university, and a subscription SaaS all need payments to behave very differently, and none of that behavior lives inside the gateway. Payment Hub is the industry-aware layer that takes Fortis's acquiring capacity and shapes it into a payment experience that fits how each vertical actually runs.

One Fortis merchant account underneath all of this. A university running Blackbaud for tuition plus Sage Intacct for operating AR, a distributor running Prophet 21 at HQ plus Dynamics GP at a recently acquired branch, a healthcare group running NetSuite plus QuickBooks, every vertical and every ERP above processes through the same Fortis MID. Clarity does not insert a markup, does not fragment your settlement, does not require a second merchant agreement. Fortis provides the acquiring footprint. Payment Hub provides every industry-specific and ERP-specific flow that sits on top of it.

How Payment Hub connects Fortis to your ERP

Clarity Connect, the integration engine under Payment Hub, with 15+ years of active development, reads from and writes to your ERP in real time using each platform's supported API layer. Fortis stays in control of authorization, tokenization, settlement, and the card networks. Clarity stays in control of the ERP-side posting and the customer experience.

Inbound from ERP

Customers, contacts, open invoices with line items, account balances, credits, payment history, all in real time. This is the data that feeds Level 3 enhanced-data submission into Fortis automatically, on every eligible transaction.

Outbound to ERP

Applied cash receipts, tokenized wallet references, address updates, and Pay-on-Account allocations, posted the moment Fortis confirms authorization. No overnight batch, no CSV import, no manual cash application in the morning.

Fortis-side processing

Fortis authorizes, tokenizes, settles, and funds exactly as it does for its native ISV integrations. Clarity does not route funds, does not insert a spread, and does not skim basis points. Your Fortis merchant statement is unchanged. Your Fortis rep stays your Fortis rep.

No ERP modifications

Clarity Connect uses only documented, supported integration points on each ERP. No schema changes, no custom code inside the ERP, no plugins that break on the next upgrade cycle.

For cloud ERPs (NetSuite, Acumatica, Dynamics 365 BC, SAP S/4HANA Cloud) Clarity Connect talks directly to the ERP's cloud APIs. For on-premise systems (Dynamics GP/NAV, Sage 100/300, SAP ECC, Oracle EBS, SYSPRO, Epicor Prophet 21/Eclipse/Eagle) we use a lightweight outbound-only secure agent that calls from inside your network, no inbound firewall ports to open, no VPN tunnel required.

The Missing LinkBetween Paymentsand Your ERP

Clarity Payment Hub closes that gap, connecting your orders, invoices, and payment channels into one flow.

ERP reach: Fortis native + Payment Hub extension

The clearest way to see the partnership is to map each ERP against who ships the connector. Fortis covers four ERPs natively with first-party plugins. Payment Hub extends the same Fortis gateway account to 21 additional ERPs using Clarity's integration library.

Same Fortis account underneath both paths. Whether a given subsidiary is on NetSuite (Fortis native) or Dynamics GP (Payment Hub connector), the transaction flows through the same Fortis gateway, settles into the same Fortis merchant account, and reports on the same Fortis statement. Level 3 data is captured the same way, tokenization uses the same Fortis vault, and recurring schedules use the same Fortis token.

When to stack Payment Hub on top of a Fortis native integration: if you need a customer-facing self-service portal, invoice presentment with Pay-on-Account, credits, statements, multi-invoice consolidation, signed single-use Quick Pay links from invoice email, or a unified customer experience across multiple ERPs at once. Fortis's native integration is in-ERP workflow. Payment Hub is customer-facing AR layer.

The portal and AR layer Fortis doesn't ship

This is where Fortis's product ends and Payment Hub's begins. Fortis's strength is embedded payments inside other software. Payment Hub's strength is the customer-facing portal and the AR team's back office.

What the customer sees

A branded payment portal at your domain, invited from your invoice email, your statement, or a signed single-use Quick Pay link. Customers log in and see their full AR picture: open invoices pulled live from the ERP, statements, credit balances, and tokenized wallets for card and ACH (stored in Fortis's vault). They can pay a single invoice, consolidate multiple invoices into one payment, apply credits, pay on account, or enroll in auto-pay, all posted back to the ERP in real time.

What the AR team sees

A clean ERP-native view of applied cash, Fortis-authorized, tokenized, already posted. No end-of-day reconciliation, no spreadsheet matching, no lookups between the gateway report and the AR subledger. The gap between "Fortis confirmed authorization" and "cash applied in the ERP" shrinks from overnight batch to seconds.

What the finance team sees

Level 3 optimization firing on eligible commercial cards, ACH defaulting above a configurable dollar threshold, surcharging or cash-discount running compliantly where elected, and a single pane of glass across every buyer, every ERP, every payment method, all still processed by Fortis, funded through Fortis's merchant account, and governed by the Fortis merchant agreement.

CEDP and Level 3: Fortis is ready, Payment Hub fires the data

Fortis has publicly documented its stance on Visa's Commercial Enhanced Data Program (CEDP), the April 2025 replacement for the old Level 2 / Level 3 interchange structure. The Fortis gateway accepts the enhanced-data fields. The merchant still has to populate them, transaction by transaction. That's where Payment Hub comes in.

What Fortis has publicly said about CEDP

Fortis's own published material frames CEDP as a data-validation regime that replaces the prior Level 2/3 structure. The economics Fortis itself has cited: a 0.05% participation fee applied to eligible B2B transactions submitted with validated enhanced data, and a 7–10% interchange reduction for merchants who consistently submit accurate Level 3 data. Net effect: merchants whose payment flow reliably passes clean Level 3 data come out meaningfully ahead. Merchants who submit incomplete or unvalidated data pay more than they used to.

Where Payment Hub fits

Fortis's gateway accepts the enhanced-data fields as part of the Platform API transaction payload. Someone still has to send those fields on every transaction, and they have to match the invoice of record, or CEDP validation fails. Payment Hub pulls line-item, tax, PO, freight, and customer-code data directly from your ERP at authorization time, no manual entry, no catalog reconciliation, no gateway-level reconstruction. Validation passes on the first try because the data is the invoice.

CEDP timing matters. Visa began CEDP enforcement April 2025. The full Level 2 sunset for U.S. commercial, corporate, fleet, and purchasing cards completes April 2026: merchants without a verified-merchant status and without validated Level 3 data in their payment flow are about to see B2B interchange quietly step up, not down. Fortis's gateway can accept the data. Payment Hub is the piece that puts it there automatically on every transaction.
Worked example. A distributor processing $10M of commercial-card volume through Fortis. Today's transactions go out with partial Level 2 data. Under CEDP, that volume is exposed to the 0.05% participation fee without qualifying for the 7–10% interchange reduction, and is at risk of higher interchange once the April 2026 Level 2 sunset completes. With Payment Hub auto-firing validated Level 3 from the ERP, the same volume qualifies for CEDP-reduced rates and avoids the degradation. On $10M at a conservative 7% reduction off a ~2.5% commercial-card rate, that's approximately $17,500 per year in preserved margin: before counting the larger Level 3 tier delta on qualifying transactions.

Security, PCI scope, and enterprise compliance

Fortis is a Level 1 PCI DSS service provider with a PCI-certified vault and tokenization stack. Clarity Payment Hub is built to push your deployment to the lightest possible compliance scope and leave the cardholder-data environment at Fortis where it belongs.

  • Tokenization at Fortis. Every card and ACH account is tokenized directly in Fortis's PCI-certified gateway vault. Raw credentials never touch Payment Hub's infrastructure and never touch your servers.
  • SAQ A scope for most merchants. Because cardholder data is captured and stored entirely inside Fortis's environment, your PCI self-assessment drops to SAQ A, the lightest tier, with no cardholder-data environment to audit on your side.
  • SOC 2 Type II. Clarity Ventures operates to SOC 2 Type II standards. Security, availability, confidentiality, and data-handling controls are independently audited on an ongoing basis.
  • 3DS2 &, fraud controls. Fortis-level 3D Secure 2, AVS, CVV, and velocity checks combine with portal-level controls: invoice-bound authentication, customer-matched billing addresses, signed single-use Quick Pay links. Defense profile tuned to B2B invoice fraud rather than consumer card fraud.
  • Outbound-only agent for on-premise ERPs. No inbound firewall ports. No VPN tunnel. No public ERP exposure.
  • OAS-based API surface. Payment Hub consumes the same Fortis Platform API exposed to Fortis's ISV partners, with the same authentication, the same audit trail, and the same SDK-generated clients.

Fortis + Payment Hub FAQ

The questions B2B AR, IT, and finance teams ask before stacking Clarity Payment Hub on top of a Fortis gateway account.

Is Clarity a Fortis partner or a competitor?

Partner. Clarity Ventures and Fortis have an active, working integration partnership, Clarity ships a Fortis-branded rep portal and Payment Hub is built to run on top of Fortis's embedded-payments gateway.

Fortis handles authorization, tokenization, settlement, and funding. Clarity handles ERP-side posting, customer-facing portal experience, AR automation, and the broader ERP connector library. The two stacks are complementary, not competing.

Which industries does Fortis + Clarity Payment Hub serve?

Eight core verticals, all running on one Fortis merchant account:

  • B2B distribution &, wholesale: dealer/customer portals with Pay-on-Account, multi-invoice consolidation, and CEDP-ready Level 3 auto-enrichment on commercial cards
  • Manufacturing: PO-driven AR, multi-entity/multi-plant roll-ups, service-parts and aftermarket flows
  • Healthcare &, life sciences: patient/payer statement portals, payment plans, tokenized recurring, SAQ A scope
  • Nonprofit &, fundraising: donor portals with pledges, designated funds, soft credits, receipting automation
  • Education: tuition portals with multi-payer splits, installment plans, activity fees, 1098-T-friendly reporting
  • Government &, public sector: citizen-facing portals for permits, utilities, courts, taxes. Convenience-fee and surcharging where allowed
  • Professional services &, agencies: matter/engagement invoicing, retainer balances, recurring billing for subscription engagements
  • Subscription, SaaS &, membership: tokenized recurring with dunning, plan-change self-service, account-updater on expired cards

Every vertical uses the Fortis gateway underneath. Payment Hub provides the industry-specific portal experience, the ERP integration, and the AR workflows on top. Same MID, same settlement, same negotiated rate structure.

Which ERPs does the Fortis + Payment Hub integration support?

25+ ERPs, a superset of Fortis's 4 native direct integrations. Fortis ships native connectors for NetSuite, Acumatica, Sage (primarily Sage 100 and Sage Intacct via DSD Business Systems), and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Payment Hub adds native-depth support for Sage 50, Sage 300, Sage X3, SAP Business One, SAP ECC, SAP S/4HANA, Epicor Kinetic, Epicor Prophet 21, Epicor Eclipse, Epicor Eagle, Infor SyteLine, SYSPRO, Oracle E-Business Suite, Dynamics 365 F&O, Dynamics GP, Dynamics NAV, Odoo, Blackbaud, and both QuickBooks Online and Enterprise QuickBooks, all on top of the same Fortis gateway account. Typical go-live is 48 hours once ERP sandbox credentials are shared.

What is CEDP and how does Fortis + Payment Hub handle it?

CEDP is Visa's Commercial Enhanced Data Program, launched April 2025, which replaces the previous Level 2 / Level 3 interchange structure with a single data-validation model. Fortis has publicly documented the economics: a 0.05% participation fee on eligible B2B transactions submitted with validated enhanced data, and a 7–10% interchange reduction for merchants who consistently submit accurate Level 3 data.

Fortis's native gateway supports the enhanced-data fields. Payment Hub is what fires them. Payment Hub auto-captures the validated line-item, tax, PO, and customer-code data directly from your ERP on every eligible transaction, so the Fortis deployment qualifies for the CEDP-reduced rates automatically. The full commercial-card Level 2 sunset completes in April 2026.

Does Payment Hub work with Fortis Developer and the Fortis Platform API?

Yes. Fortis Developer is Fortis's OAS-based API platform with SDKs, Postman collections, sandbox tooling, and real-time request inspection. Clarity Payment Hub and Clarity Connect are built to the Fortis Platform API specification, the same spec Fortis's own ISV partners integrate against.

Authentication, tokenization, vault lookups, recurring schedules, ACH, 3DS2, Tap to Pay on iPhone, and Level 2/3 enhanced-data submission are all consumed through Fortis's documented API. No custom or off-spec integration points.

Does Fortis support ACH and tokenized recurring through Payment Hub?

Yes. Fortis processes Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, UnionPay, and ACH through its embedded-payments gateway, with tokenized card-on-file and ACH-on-file vaulting built in.

Payment Hub surfaces ACH as a first-class option in the customer portal alongside cards, with tokenized bank-account reuse so customers enter their routing and account numbers once and pay with one click on every subsequent invoice. Recurring and scheduled ACH is fully supported. For large B2B accounts, ACH is typically configured as the default method above a dollar threshold.

Do I keep my Fortis merchant account and pricing?

Yes. Payment Hub connects to your existing Fortis gateway account through the Fortis Platform API, your MID, your merchant agreement, your Fortis rep, your negotiated rates, and your Fortis statement all stay exactly as they are. Clarity does not insert a transaction markup, does not skim basis points, and does not replace the Fortis merchant relationship. Payment Hub is sold as a flat software subscription.

How long does a Fortis + Payment Hub go-live take?

48 hours is typical once Clarity has Fortis gateway credentials and ERP sandbox credentials. Because Fortis is already a partner and the Fortis Platform API is documented to OAS standard, the gateway-side integration is well-trodden, most of the implementation time is spent on ERP connector configuration and portal branding rather than on payments plumbing.

Clarity Payment Hub is packaged software with a flat subscription. No markup on Fortis transactions, no basis-point skim, no custom-build timeline.

Who owns Fortis, and how does that affect the integration?

Fortis is a U.S.-based embedded-payments company, headquartered in Plano, Texas, founded in 2009. In March 2025, Fortis closed a joint recapitalization from Audax Private Equity and existing investor Lovell Minnick Partners: a growth investment specifically aimed at accelerating embedded-payments expansion. The integration with Clarity Payment Hub pre-dates the recap and has carried through it. Ownership does not affect the integration surface or the partnership.
