Gateway
USAePay, an established ISO-channel gateway, an industry-aware payments layer
USAePay has been in the U.S. payment gateway market since 1998, one of the longer-running ISO-channel gateways, headquartered in Los Angeles. In 2021 it joined the NMI family, which expanded its ecosystem and ISV / ISO reach while preserving the product identity long-time USAePay integrators already know: the Virtual Terminal merchant portal, the Customer Database vault, hosted payment forms, and both SOAP and REST transaction APIs. Its real strengths are the Virtual Terminal for MOTO / keyed-entry workflows, broad certified-terminal support for retail and SMB card-present, and a straightforward integration model that's been in place for two decades. What it isn't, on its own, is an industry-aware payments platform tuned to the way distributors, manufacturers, healthcare providers, nonprofits, schools, government buyers, professional-services firms, and subscription businesses actually collect money.
That's the layer Clarity Payment Hub supplies. On top of USAePay's gateway, Customer Database, Virtual Terminal, and recurring billing capabilities, Payment Hub adds branded industry checkout flows, a self-service customer portal tailored to each vertical, Level 2/3 auto-enrichment for commercial-card programs, surcharging, and 25+ ERP connectors, so a distributor on Sage, a clinic on Epicor, a nonprofit on NetSuite, and a school on Oracle all get an experience that matches how their industry buys.
What USAePay owns, the gateway, Virtual Terminal MOTO portal, Customer Database vault, recurring billing engine, terminal certifications, stays with USAePay. What Payment Hub owns, the industry-specific payment pattern, the ERP posting, the customer-facing portal, extends USAePay into verticals and transaction types it doesn't focus on natively. Your USAePay account, ISO / reseller relationship, acquiring bank, and negotiated rates all stay exactly as they are.
How Payment Hub connects USAePay to your ERP
Clarity Connect, the integration engine under Payment Hub with 15+ years of active development, reads from and writes to your ERP in real time using each platform's supported API layer, and talks to USAePay via its Transaction API (REST or SOAP), Payment Form hosted pages, and the Virtual Terminal for AR-staff keyed entry.
Inbound from ERP
Customers, contacts, open invoices with line items, account balances, credits, payment history, statements, all in real time.
Outbound to ERP
Applied cash receipts from portal, Virtual Terminal MOTO entries, and certified-terminal POS transactions. Customer Database token references, address updates. Pay-on-Account allocations, posted the moment USAePay confirms the authorization.
USAePay-side processing
USAePay routes to your underlying processor, runs its risk checks, tokenizes in Customer Database, and returns the response. Clarity never inserts a spread or marks up transaction costs.
No ERP modifications
Clarity Connect uses only documented, supported integration points. No schema changes, no ERP-side custom code, no plugins to maintain across upgrades.
For cloud ERPs (NetSuite, Acumatica, Dynamics 365 BC, SAP S/4HANA Cloud) Clarity Connect talks directly to the ERP's cloud APIs. For on-premise ERPs (Dynamics GP/NAV, Sage 100/300, SAP ECC, Oracle EBS, SYSPRO, Epicor P21/Eclipse/Eagle) we use a lightweight outbound-only secure agent that calls from inside your network, no inbound firewall ports to open. Virtual Terminal entries and POS transactions post to the ERP the same way portal transactions do, one reconciliation path, one cash application workflow.

The Missing LinkBetween Paymentsand Your ERP
Clarity Payment Hub closes that gap, connecting your orders, invoices, and payment channels into one flow.
Speak to a Platform ArchitectEvery payment method your customers need
USAePay supports the full stack of U.S. payment methods across online, MOTO, and in-person acceptance. Payment Hub surfaces the methods that actually matter per industry.
Cards
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, Diners, including commercial, corporate, and purchasing cards that qualify for Level 2/3 rates through your underlying processor.
ACH &, eCheck
U.S. bank-account transfers at the lowest per-transaction cost for large B2B tickets. Tokenized in Customer Database once, re-used in one click. Default method above a configurable dollar threshold.
Digital Wallets
Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Click to Pay render in the Payment Hub checkout. Wallet transactions flow through USAePay to your underlying processor like any tokenized card transaction.
Certified POS terminals
USAePay has a long certified-terminal list across Verifone, Ingenico, PAX, and Castles hardware, so in-person and counter flows post to the same ERP as online and MOTO transactions.
For large B2B accounts, we commonly set ACH as the default payment method above a configurable dollar threshold, protecting your card-processing economics on seven-figure invoices while still giving customers a one-click experience.
Interchange savings and compliant surcharging
Two of the biggest unit-economics levers in B2B payments, Level 2/3 enhanced data and credit-card surcharging, ship in Payment Hub out of the box on top of USAePay.
Level 2 and Level 3 processing
Level 2 and Level 3 refer to enhanced transaction data (sales tax, customer code, invoice line items, purchase order number, freight, duty, product codes) that the card networks require to qualify large B2B transactions for the lowest interchange tiers. Without this data, B2B card transactions default to the most expensive commercial-card interchange.
USAePay supports Level 2 and Level 3 enhanced data on qualified Visa and Mastercard commercial-card transactions. Clarity Payment Hub pulls the line-item, tax, and customer-code data from your ERP automatically and passes it to USAePay on every eligible transaction, including Virtual Terminal keyed-entry transactions, which also benefit from line-item data pulled from the ERP at the moment of entry. There is nothing for your AR team to key in and nothing for the customer to fill out.
Compliant credit card surcharging
Payment Hub supports compliant credit card surcharging out of the box on USAePay card transactions. The platform handles state-by-state rule enforcement, displays the legally required pre-authorization disclosure, caps the surcharge percentage at the allowed maximum (typically 3% per card network rules), and tracks the surcharge as a separate line in your ERP. Debit cards, prepaid cards, and non-surcharge-eligible cards are excluded automatically. Virtual Terminal entries follow the same surcharging rules as online transactions.
Cash-discount programs are also supported where your pricing strategy calls for it.
Virtual Terminal, the MOTO engine B2B still needs
MOTO (Mail Order / Telephone Order) isn't a relic of the 1990s, it's a live part of how many B2B distributors, manufacturers, healthcare practices, nonprofits, and municipal offices still collect payments. USAePay's Virtual Terminal is one of the more mature merchant-facing MOTO portals, and Payment Hub wires it into the ERP so phone-entered payments post like any other.
Merchant-facing keyed entry
AR staff enter card or ACH payment details received by phone, email, or fax into Virtual Terminal's web interface. Full MOTO flag set, AVS / CVV checks available, AC3D Secure step-up optional where applicable.
Level 2/3 data from the ERP, at MOTO entry
When AR staff take a phone payment against a specific invoice, Payment Hub pulls line-item, tax, and customer-code data from the ERP and passes it to USAePay on the Virtual Terminal transaction, preserving Level 3 interchange savings even on MOTO flows.
Customer Database integration
If the caller is an existing customer, AR staff can charge a token from Customer Database without re-keying the card, one less PCI-exposed keystroke, faster call handling, and consistent tokens across online and MOTO.
Real-time ERP posting
Every Virtual Terminal transaction posts to the ERP immediately via Payment Hub, same customer lookup, same invoice application, same GL posting as a portal transaction. Your AR team's reconciliation workflow is one path, not two.
For verticals where phone and email payments are still meaningful, B2B distribution on net-30 terms, manufacturing service calls, healthcare front-desk walk-ins, municipal call centers, nonprofit phone-a-thons, professional-services retainer refresh, Virtual Terminal is a real USAePay advantage that Payment Hub surfaces cleanly inside the industry-aware workflow. AR staff keep working the way they already do. The only difference is the ERP posting becomes automatic.
Security, PCI scope, and enterprise compliance
USAePay is PCI DSS Level 1 certified, the highest tier, and operates under NMI's parent-company security framework. Clarity Payment Hub is built to push your deployment to the lightest compliance scope available.
- Customer Database tokenization. Every card and ACH account is tokenized directly at USAePay's PCI-certified Customer Database vault. Raw card numbers never touch Payment Hub's infrastructure and never touch your servers.
- PaymentShield iframe hosted fields. Card data is captured inside USAePay-hosted iframes for online transactions, so PAN never transits your servers. Qualifies for SAQ A, the lightest PCI self-assessment available.
- Virtual Terminal security. Virtual Terminal is hosted by USAePay with role-based access controls for AR staff, so PAN entered by phone is captured inside USAePay's environment, not your own.
- 3D Secure 2. USAePay supports 3DS2 step-up for liability shift on card-not-present transactions. Payment Hub triggers step-up only when the underlying processor flags medium risk.
- SOC 2 Type II. Clarity Ventures operates to SOC 2 Type II standards. Security, availability, confidentiality, and data-handling controls are independently audited on an ongoing basis.
- Outbound-only agent for on-premise ERPs. No inbound firewall ports. No VPN tunnel. No public ERP exposure.
USAePay + Payment Hub FAQ
The questions B2B AR, IT, and finance teams ask before rolling out USAePay through Clarity Payment Hub.
Which industries does USAePay + Clarity Payment Hub serve?
Eight verticals out of the box: B2B distribution and wholesale, manufacturing, healthcare and life sciences, nonprofit and fundraising, education, government and public sector, professional services and agencies, and subscription / SaaS / membership.
Each vertical gets an industry-aware payment pattern on top of USAePay's gateway, branded portals, real-time ERP posting, Level 2/3 data enrichment, ACH, Virtual Terminal for MOTO entry, Customer Database tokenization, and recurring billing. The same 48-hour rollout and 25+ ERP connector library covers every vertical.
Is USAePay the same company as NMI?
USAePay became part of NMI in 2021 when NMI acquired it, making it a sibling product to the NMI gateway under the same parent. USAePay continues to operate under its own brand and maintains its distinct product identity, Virtual Terminal, Customer Database, hosted payment forms, and the SOAP and REST APIs that long-time USAePay integrators already know.
Clarity Payment Hub works identically whether you're on USAePay, NMI, or both, the industry-aware layer, ERP integration, and customer portal are consistent across the NMI family. If your business has different divisions on different NMI-family gateways, Payment Hub unifies them under one ERP posting path.
What is USAePay Virtual Terminal and why does it matter for B2B?
Virtual Terminal is USAePay's merchant-facing keyed-entry portal, a web interface your AR team uses to key in card or ACH payments received by phone, email, or fax (MOTO, Mail Order / Telephone Order). For B2B distributors, wholesalers, and manufacturing service teams that still receive a meaningful percentage of payments via phone call, Virtual Terminal is one of the signature USAePay strengths.
Clarity Payment Hub connects Virtual Terminal entries into the same ERP posting path as portal, invoice, and POS transactions, so a phoned-in payment posts to the right customer and invoice in real time, just like an online one. Level 2/3 data is pulled from the ERP even for MOTO entries, preserving commercial-card interchange savings across every channel.
Does USAePay support ACH and eCheck transactions?
Yes. USAePay supports U.S. ACH processing alongside card processing, with bank-account tokenization in the Customer Database. Clarity Payment Hub exposes ACH as a first-class payment method in the branded portal and the tokenized wallet, which is typically the lowest-cost method for high-dollar B2B invoices.
Bank details are tokenized in Customer Database so customers re-use them in one click without re-entering routing and account numbers. Many customers set ACH as the default on invoices over a defined dollar threshold to protect card-processing economics on large tickets.
What is USAePay's Customer Database and how does Payment Hub use it?
Customer Database is USAePay's PCI-scoped tokenization vault. It replaces raw card numbers and bank accounts with tokens and stores customer payment profiles with optional billing and shipping information.
Clarity Payment Hub uses Customer Database as the system of record for every saved payment method, then references the token in the ERP. Raw PAN never touches Payment Hub or your infrastructure, and one-click re-payment from the customer portal, or one-click charge-from-file via Virtual Terminal, is the default experience.
Can USAePay pass Level 2 and Level 3 data for interchange savings?
Yes. USAePay supports Level 2 and Level 3 enhanced data on qualified Visa and Mastercard commercial-card transactions. Clarity Payment Hub pulls the line-item, tax, and customer-code data from your ERP automatically and passes it to USAePay on every eligible transaction, including Virtual Terminal keyed-entry transactions.
B2B merchants commonly save 0.5–1.0% (up to 30% off transaction fees) of each eligible card transaction when Level 2/3 data is passed correctly. On a $50,000 invoice that is $250–$500 of margin preserved, on every transaction, whether taken online or by phone.
How does Clarity Payment Hub handle USAePay settlements?
USAePay routes the transaction to your underlying processor. That processor settles and funds through your acquiring bank on its usual schedule. What Clarity Payment Hub changes is the ERP side: the applied cash receipt is written back to your ERP in real time the moment the customer pays, regardless of whether the transaction originated from the portal, Virtual Terminal, or a certified POS terminal.
There is no overnight batch, no CSV import, and no manual cash application. Invoice status, account balance, and aging reports update immediately in your ERP across all three acceptance channels.
What is the integration cost and timeline for USAePay through Payment Hub?
Clarity Payment Hub is packaged software, not a custom build. A typical USAePay + ERP go-live takes 48 hours once Clarity receives ERP sandbox credentials and USAePay API credentials (Source Key and PIN). No new servers, no middleware, no custom code on your ERP.
You keep your USAePay account, your ISO / reseller relationship, your acquiring bank, and your negotiated rates, Clarity does not insert a transaction markup or skim basis points. Implementation is a flat subscription with the ERP integration included.
Is USAePay PCI compliant and how does it affect our own PCI scope?
USAePay is PCI DSS Level 1 certified, the highest tier. Clarity Payment Hub uses USAePay's PaymentShield iframe hosted fields and Customer Database tokenization to tokenize card data directly in the customer's browser or inside USAePay-hosted pages, meaning raw PAN never reaches your servers, Payment Hub's servers, or the network in between.
Virtual Terminal entries are captured inside USAePay's environment, not yours. Most deployments qualify for SAQ A, the lightest PCI self-assessment available, dramatically shortening annual compliance review and removing the cardholder-data environment from audit scope.
Does USAePay support surcharging and recurring billing?
Yes to both. Payment Hub supports compliant credit card surcharging on USAePay card transactions, state-by-state rules, network caps, and the legally required pre-authorization disclosure are all enforced automatically. Debit, prepaid, and non-eligible cards are excluded. Virtual Terminal entries follow the same surcharging rules as online transactions.
USAePay has a built-in recurring billing engine combined with Customer Database tokenization for card-on-file storage. Payment Hub layers industry-aware dunning, failed-payment recovery, and ERP posting on top.
How does USAePay + Payment Hub compare to NMI, Authorize.Net, or other ISO-channel gateways?
USAePay, NMI, and Authorize.Net are all ISO-channel gateways with similar architectural patterns, acquirer-agnostic, tokenization vaults, recurring engines, and terminal certification. Since USAePay became part of NMI in 2021, they share the same parent company, though they continue as separate products.
USAePay's historical strengths are Virtual Terminal for MOTO, a clean dual SOAP/REST API story that long-time integrators know, and the PaymentShield iframe approach. NMI's strengths are broader processor certification and ISV payfac enablement. Authorize.Net's strengths are Visa ownership and the most consolidated retail brand. Clarity Payment Hub works identically across all three, pick the one that matches your ISO relationship and product mix.
Can we move to USAePay if we are currently on another gateway?
Yes, and Clarity Payment Hub is designed to make that transition painless. Because Payment Hub is gateway-agnostic, you can port your portal, your ERP integration, your customer accounts, and your buyer UX to USAePay without rebuilding any of them. The only piece that changes is the gateway credential. Tokenized cards are re-vaulted in Customer Database during migration where the source gateway supports secure token migration, and recurring subscriptions are recreated with the original billing schedule preserved.
