They were looking for an experience that more than serviced people checking on the status of their flights, they wanted to be able to provide a better experience for those spending time in the airport terminals as well (where to eat, park, nap, etc.).
MCI handles complex course scheduling for multiple registrants, but the UI could only process one student to one course at a time. They needed to combine multiple back-office LOB applications into a single workflow, with the ability to handle many “edge” cases (i.e. government required consideration for special needs, compliance regulations, mandatory discount evaluation for registrations of more than 5 attendees, etc.). They also needed real-time communication with their accounting and scheduling applications. Finally, government clients often had difficulty paying since the person responsible for signing up for the course, didn’t have the payment information, p-card or authority.
Clarity, both as a DNN and Microsoft partner, made the perfect fit for MCI's project. The project began with a complex discovery and design phase that fully mocked up the checkout and integrations workflows. Clarity, using their eCommerce and Connect platforms, then constructed a new integration and checkout process for their existing DNN site (once you select a course, you're into Clartiy territory). The integrations were complex due to the government regulations (i.e. automated approvals for 5 or more registrants, PCI compliance, course registration notifications, etc.).
The Clarity solution provides the ability to handle custom edge cases that took a lot of manual processing before. It allows the scheduling of multiple registrants and multiple courses in a single order. Clarity improved the user experience by building in single-sign-on to their Cornerstone LMS. The user portal provides the ability to save credit card information in a PCI DSS compliant wallet, which can be shared with other approved purchasers or schedulers. MCI Sales reps can now process an order in a single system (Clarity API <-> MS Dynamics CRM) and break out orders into multiple transactions. Partially completed registrations are now captured and followed up on, which were abandoned before. Finally, the CRM contact and registration is now validated in real-time so notifications can be processed to each course registrant as they’re being registered for courses.
The front-end CMS is DNN’s Evoq Professional. HTML5, CSS3 and Modernizr was used to create the responsive template.
Clarity Connect, JavaScript, JQuery, Telerik controls were all needed for various features and functionality, as well as a host of DNN modules, like XMod Pro, Easy DNN News, Rotator and Gallery.
