SAP S/4HANA + Zendesk Integration
Clarity Connect™ integrates SAP S/4HANA with Zendesk, automating business processes and data sharing. This robust integration connects your critical business systems to automate order processing, inventory management, and customer data synchronization.
Connecting with Clarity Connect™
Clarity Connect™ links SAP S/4HANA and Zendesk through automation and data sharing. Integrating these platforms benefits businesses by streamlining processes and connecting front-end and back-end systems.
Considerations when connecting these applications include security, performance, and physical access. We support both SaaS (Cloud) and On-Premises connection types.
Seamless Integration
Our middleware platform ensures robust and reliable data transfer between SAP S/4HANA and Zendesk.
-
SAP S/4HANA: Extendable with custom fields (e.g., via Custom Fields and Logic Fiori app) for Business Partners, Sales Orders, Materials, etc. These can be exposed via OData APIs.
-
Zendesk: Supports extensive custom fields for Users, Organizations, and Tickets. Also allows for Custom Objects to store complex, structured data.

Scalable & Resilient Integration Architecture
The integration architecture leverages a cloud-native iPaaS as the central hub, ensuring high availability, scalability, and robust error handling for seamless connectivity between SAP S/4HANA and Zendesk.
Data Flow Steps
Event-Driven Architecture: Utilizing SAP Event Mesh and Zendesk webhooks for real-time updates, minimizing polling.
API-First Design: Leveraging standard, well-documented APIs from both systems.
Canonical Data Model: Defining an intermediate data model within the iPaaS for easier mapping and future extensibility.
Request-Reply (Synchronous): For real-time data lookups (e.g., order status in Zendesk).
Publish-Subscribe (Asynchronous): For master data synchronization and event notifications.
Error Handling with Dead-Letter Queues: Ensuring no data loss and clear visibility of failed transactions.
Circuit Breaker Pattern: To prevent cascading failures during system outages or rate limit breaches.
Data Touchpoints
"Conceptual diagram depicts SAP S/4HANA on one side, Zendesk on the other, with the iPaaS in the center. The iPaaS connects to SAP S/4HANA via OData/REST APIs and Event Mesh. It connects to Zendesk via REST APIs and Webhooks. Arrows indicate bi-directional data flows for master data, and specific flows for transactional data (e.g., SAP -> Zendesk for order status, Zendesk -> SAP for RMA initiation). Monitoring and Governance layers are shown encircling the iPaaS."

Customer Order Status Inquiry Automation
Enable Zendesk agents to instantly retrieve real-time sales order status, shipping details, and invoice information directly from SAP S/4HANA within a Zendesk ticket, without switching applications.
Integration Steps:
- 0 Customer submits a ticket in Zendesk regarding an order.
- 1 Zendesk agent accesses relevant order number (e.g., via custom field or ticket description).
- 2 iPaaS triggers a real-time lookup in SAP S/4HANA for the Sales Order.
- 3 SAP S/4HANA returns order details (status, delivery date, items, payment status) via OData API.
- 4 iPaaS transforms and displays data within the Zendesk ticket interface for the agent.
Business Outcome
Reduced average handling time (AHT) for order-related inquiries, improved first-contact resolution (FCR), enhanced customer satisfaction, and empowered agents.

API Endpoints & Data Logic
Technical details for developers and architects.
⚡ Transformation Logic
- SAP S/4HANA Business Partner Category '2' (Organization) maps to Zendesk Organization. Category '1' (Person) maps to Zendesk User, with a link to an Organization.
- SAP S/4HANA Address fields (Street, HouseNumber, PostalCode, City, Country) are concatenated and mapped to Zendesk User/Organization 'address' field or custom address fields.
- SAP S/4HANA 'OverallSDStatus' (e.g., 'C' for complete, 'A' for open) is mapped to descriptive text (e.g., 'Shipped', 'Pending') for Zendesk display.
- Zendesk User 'email' is used as a primary key for matching existing SAP Business Partners. If no match, a new Business Partner is created with 'Customer' role.
- SAP S/4HANA Material 'MaterialDescription' maps directly to Zendesk custom product description field, ensuring consistency.
🛡️ Error Handling
- SAP S/4HANA API unavailability or rate limits reached.
- Zendesk API authentication failures or invalid requests.
- Data type mismatches during transformation (e.g., string to integer).
- Mandatory fields missing in target system after mapping.
- Duplicate record creation due to reconciliation logic failure.
- Business rule violations (e.g., creating an order for a customer on credit hold).
