One Of The Best CMS For eCommerce

Introduction to Sitefinity

Content management systems (CMS) are becoming more popular by the minute. They are the staple of an efficient and successful business model. Many marketers and brands rely on this software to execute a marketing strategy and take a company’s organizational efficiency to the next level. Irrespective of their skill level, all users want ease-of-use and simplicity while using a software solution they want.

Sitefinity CMS is a content management system that helps businesses, marketers, and developers manage data and user experiences. Telerik developed progress Sitefinity. Developers or business users buy the Sitefinity software and then download and install it onto their device. It allows administrators to create, edit, and publish content.

CMS gives managers greater control. This flexibility allows them to manage their brand or business while using the best eCommerce practices. Using Sitefinity allows business users to have a greater say in the content they create, the terms on which they share it online, and the audience they share it with. These decisions play an integral part in optimization.

Pre-requisites of installing Sitefinity

System Requirements for Sitefinity

Business users need to fulfill specific Sitefinity system requirements before they can install and use the software. They must have access to software and hardware that can support Sitefinity CMS. However, it is nothing to worry about as most of these system requirements are easily met by small businesses as well as large corporations. This is because Sitefinity is a .NET CMS, which means it is a Microsoft based framework. This is relevant as it emphasizes the connectivity and accessibility available with Progress Sitefinity.

Sitefinity CMS is compatible with both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows Operating Systems. However, businesses need to meet some minimum hardware requirements such as a 500 MB+ memory and 400 MB+ hard disk requirement.

There is a range of supported database platforms. These platforms include Microsoft® Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Microsoft Azure. However, it’s important to note that the businesses need to have the latest versions of either Firefox or Chrome to support content editing and carry out administrative tasks. Other server-side requirements are:

  • Microsoft® Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, 2016, 2019, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Microsoft Azure
  • Microsoft® ASP.NET MVC 5

How to install Sitefinity

A person doesn’t have to be a developer to install and run Sitefinity CMS. In fact, it can quickly be done in a few steps. Business users can choose to try a 30-day free trial version to test the software. This will be through a Sitefinity Sandbox- an online hosted experience that allows users to try out the software online so that they don’t have to install it. Alternatively, they can directly buy the licensed version for complete access.

To get the trial version, users need to:

  • Open the Progress website at https://www.progress.com/sitefinity-cms.
  • Click the “Try Now” button in the center-left of the main page to be redirected onto another page.
  • The two options are ‘developer’ and ‘business user’. You should choose the one that applies to you.
  • If you selected ‘developer’, you will be able to download the software once you fill in your credentials. However, you will need to confirm your email by following the link sent via email first.
  • You will need to enter the activation key given with login credentials in the email once you have downloaded Sitefinity.
  • The Sitefinity content manager will also be downloaded and installed, and this will be the tool that will primarily manage multiple websites.
  • Download Sitefinity products and then install them. You will also be given content along with the download. This includes Sitefinity CMS documentation (such as tutorials and resource articles) and developer resources. The documentation also includes instructions for downloading the licensed version, setup, and maintenance. On top of that, Sitefinity consulting and support teams are present to guide you through the process if you need them.
  • If you selected ‘business user’, you’ll be directed to a form to fill out your details for email registration. After that, you will need to check your provided email for further details.
  • Open the link sent to you in your email. It will take you to a webpage, depending on the option (administration panel URL or public URL) you select.

Editions of CMS Sitefinity

Sitefinity CMS has three editions of its software. These are the Professional edition, Online Marketing edition, and Enterprise edition. The Professional edition has the least amount of features and support out of these three options, while the Enterprise edition has the most. The perfect option for businesses will depend on their goals and resources.
